Below, you will find answers to the most common questions that we get about Glassbeam’s machine data analytics solution. How much does medical equipment downtime cost healthcare providers?

Let’s look at MRIs, one of the most commonly used imaging equipment types. If an MRI (without Glassbeam predictive analytics) is down for an average of 30 to 60 hours per year, and an average scan in the U.S. costs $2,000 per scan and takes one hour, hospitals can easily lose $60,000 to $120,000 on one machine alone. Other cost considerations include the total number of machines, idle employee time and possible reduction in Medicare/Medicaid reimbursements if more than a certain number of patients are turned away.

What modalities and vendors does Glassbeam support?

We currently provide cloud-based advanced machine data analytics for MRI, CT, ultrasound and biomedical equipment from all major manufacturers. Our solutions ingest and translate machine logs, DICOM headers, CMMS data and more into one single model and use AI and machine learning to predict part failure, detect anomalies, and even forecast equipment utilization.

We can also monitor the impact of environmental factors, like room temperature and humidity, on the performance of medical equipment.

As we continually develop new partnerships and gain access to machine log data from different equipment types, we are always expanding our solution to include more types and manufacturers. How do you connect to MRI and CT machines? Do you need service keys?

For most* modalities and manufacturers, the deployment is all software-driven and we collect machine logs from the desktop computer connected to the medical equipment. We do need root authority during initial installation or connection to the machine and do not need any service-level keys after that.

*We use a magnet watch device for GE MRIs to retrieve the magnet monitor data.

How long does it take to implement the Glassbeam solution?

Our applications are already developed, proven and running in the cloud. Our typical implementation is 4 weeks or less for approximately 20 machines. We take care of 100 percent of the set-up and tailor dashboards based on your specific requirements to make it as simple and customized as possible for each of your users.

Does implementing the Glassbeam solution impact machine performance?

Short answer: No. The equipment only generates 2 to 3 megabytes of machine log data each day.

How do you address security and secure protected health information (PHI)?

We currently strip out PHI data and only ingest machine data relevant to machine health, operational statistics, error codes, usage patterns and the like. All of our data is encrypted when it is sent to the cloud for processing. We pass our providers’ security requirements and have proactively completed a HIPAA compliance certification from a leading security consulting firm so that we are prepared if we ingest PHI data in the future.

How does Glassbeam pricing work?

Glassbeam Analytics is licensed as an annual, full-service software-as-a-service (SaaS) subscription. The license is based on the type of modality, with discounts by volume and length of the agreement. We also offer enterprise-wide subscription licenses.
